This show happened before we launched the new site, but here are my thoughts:
PRE-SHOW:
To get the gig I just facebook’d Sally @ NetCandi (www.netcandi.com) and asked if I could open, I got a reply asking for a Demo CD. A few things immediately came to mind: a) Wow these guys are professional, b) aw man… what songs do I put on it? c) man I really need to get a CD done, haha. After 4-5 days we chatted and I got the thumbs up. I never did get around to asking her what she thought about the CD *NOTE TO SELF* Actually I’d like to know which had more pull on the Resume’ the Songs, or the good References?
Awesome, I got the gig – boom, I invited Ricca Razor Sharp www.riccarazorsharp.com to represent Audible and we’re good to go. While making the set we realized it was the first time in ages we had to cut out any inappropriate language. It was also the debut for few songs ‘Where you come from’, ’The Gotcha’ and ‘Wind me up’ from the very recent 36 hr EP (Oct 18th), time to practice up!
The SHOW
We were very relaxed throughout the whole day, the joy of a Saturday: having all day to prepare for night. Sound check was great, met all the dancers and of course we felt comfortable with DJ Roofeo and DexOne on the decks (if you don’t know, you better check yourself =P). The line-up made me a little nervous, I was worried that my friends (50 of them) wouldn’t be able to get in by the time I performed, but I was proven wrong, NetCandi.com and Mac Hall knew what they were doing, they moved the door nice and smoothly unlike other venues I’ve performed at.
Performance: overall I was really happy with out set. I drank 2 bottles of water before we hit the stage and 1 bottle ON stage, rocking a crowd always gives me a ‘NERVOUS COTTONMOUTH’. The freestyling was pretty hard because there wasn’t really anything to shout out in the crowd, they ALL looked the same!! How many punchlines can you drop about an little asian boy in a JabbaWockee shirt standing next to an asian girl in a JabbaWockee shirt? haha… I kept looking for someone in a Canucks jersey to diss or a JabbaWockee Poster… I don’t think they realized we were freestyling until about 16 bars in… As for our written material the crowd was very receptive, cheering after every song and transition – they responded to our energy and we heard appreciation for our punchlines/drops and chorus’.
AFTER THE PERFORMANCE
LETS DRINK!!! Thanks to all my friends for coming to support, thanks for the drinks, thanks to everyone involved in the show who were so friendly. Super props to NetCandi, I definitely hope to do another show with them in the future *fingers crossed*
